Toulouse: logical winners of the French championship for the 17th time clearly outclassed Clermont 26-20 after a superb final. The experience, the dominance and the tactical knowledge of the Toulouse players made all the difference against the Clermont team, powerless to lead the play.

Clermont still won’t be champions this year. Slight favorites after their magnificent season, Clermont were never able to get the upper hand over Toulouse who gave them a lesson on how to handle a final. Toulouse is King of France again, seven years later, and nothing remains to be said after seeing the match.

Between the two best teams this season, two of the fortresses of French rugby, with two of the most enthusiastic groups of supporters, the 2007-2008 Top 14 final always looked extremely promising, as if to better celebrate the tenth anniversary of the LNR National Rugby League. From the outset, both teams set a cracking pace, each one attempting to lead the play. But Clermont were a little more cutting, more aggressive, especially in defense, and they dominated the field.

Toulouse gave a brilliant demonstration, plunging Clermont even further into distress. Cruel, but logical. After their defeat in the European Rugby Cup final, Toulouse has given a remarkable performance to come back and win the national championship. The Top 14 has a fine champion.
